New work for 2010 and 2011

The Central Coast Art Doll Club had a very busy 2010.  We tried our hand at goards.  Only one of our members completed her goard doll.

Our Patti Medaris Culea class in May was a lot of fun.  Patti is a wonderful artist and an excellent teacher.  The setting was lovely as well.  One of our members let us use her guest house overlooking the beach.  What a treat that was.

We continue to meet monthly and often have workshops once a month as well.

2011 is moving along quickly and we will soon be in a 5 day class with the Dutch Tough artists from Holland, Marlaine Verhelst and Ankie Dannen.  We have been looking forward to this class for over a year.  We will certainly post our pictures when the class is finished.

2010 has been a very busy year for the club

The Club has been very busy with meetings once a month (third Monday of the month), and workshops on the last Monday of the month.  We had Patti Culea here in May for a 2 day class and everyone made something wonderful.  Pictures will be posted soon.  Patti is a lot of fun and we hope to see her again soon.

Next year we will have the Dutch women here for a 5 day class in April.  Ankie Daanen and Marlaine Verhelst are both extremely talented artists.  It is a big treat to get them to the California Central Coast.

Pickles and Friends

It has been a while since I've update our blog. We've been recovering from the Ankie class. At the last meeting, Sheila finally unveiled Pickles and Friends. He was about a year in the making, as he underwent many transformations. His head and hands are sculpted from an air-dry clay. Body and costume were designed to go with the head. The little dog behind him is psuedo needle-felted. The chickens were specially make to fit the box.

Ankie Daanen Class

Last week CCADC was lucky enough to have Ankie Daanen teach us her wonderful doll making techniques. We sculpted heads, hands and feet. This was an challenging but exciting learning experience. Ankie is a gifted and gracious teacher. As you can see, all the dolls turned out beautiful. Not only did we learn how to sculpt but also how to paint the faces. They are done with watercolor. Using watercolor was also a challenge as we were unfamiliar with this medium. Please note the exquisite costumes. They were specially make for our dolls by Ankie herself. She has she an eye for details. If you ever get a chance to take a class from Ankie, don't pass up the opportunity.

Jan 19, 09 Meeting will be Great Fun

Chris will be demonstrating her marvelous techniques for coloring and shading flat faces. Her flat faced art figures look 3 dimensional, even up close. Bring your color pencils and paper and be prepared to play, learn and laugh. Looking forward to seeing this creative and fun loving group on the 19th.

Time to Party

We meet, we eat and we get presents at our next meeting. It is time for the annual potluck and gift exchange. You never know exactly what you're going to get to eat. It's a true potluck. One year we mostly had desserts. Yum! Yum! Whatever food shows up, it will be very good. This is a very creative group and the presents given reflect this. The gifts range from unique handmade to unusual materials to be used in your next project.
